Absolutely magic place. We got there a bit too early, so unfortunately we couldn't experience the feeding event, but we still managed to get some belting shots of Red Kites.
Medium sized carpark next to the visitors centre and toilets.
There are activities for the children, such as pond dipping and a mud garden.
There are two hides. We only experienced the one at the hilltop, it was large and well kept. It could easily fit 25+ people. Binoculars and bird reference books available to use.
Staff are pleasant and eager to talk about the birds, which was very welcome.
There is an honesty box for you to make donations and payments, preferred method seems to be cash, but they do have a card payment system at the visitors centre.
Please be careful when coming off the A9 and going onto the smaller roads. They are very narrow and passing other vehicles can be a struggle, so please keep your speed low and keep your wits about you.
I would definitely recommend it and I hope to get there again in the future.
What a great place to observe wild animals and birds. Our objective was to see the Red Kites feeding and even in the rain we managed just that and what a special treat it was. The hide from which you watch the feeding is enormous and positioned to take in the sight. The guide was fantastic, polite, friendly and knowledgeable adding numerous facts to ponder, he even put out additional food to attract wild birds prior to feeding the red kites and unbelievably while wild bird watching a red squirrel with quite a dark tail shot across in front of us, lovely. There is a reasonably sized carpark with toilets near the visitors room. A few post cards, pictures, cards with sketches of kites, otters, red squirrels and a book on red kites are for sale. A pre-view video is played prior to heading off for the tour and several information areas on re-wilding in Scotland are available to study. A reasonably priced treat for all the family and some tours are pet friendly. Even though the road to the centre is a single road which is tight in places I totally recommend this facility for a visit.
Absolutely amazing place!! If you love wildlife, do not hesitate to visit Argaty! Thanks to Nikki and Ollie for the welcome and information. Lots of different hides available. The animal activity was non-stop! I hope to be back in the future.
I had a wonderful day photographing red squirrels and red kites at Argaty. Lyn was most helpful with advice and made us so welcome. Tom took me up to the squirrel hide and gave lots of tips for getting good images overall a great experience.
If you want to see kites, go!
Had an amazing time watching and learning about them further. Even saw a red squirrel and other interesting birds
Visited here in July. Absolutely fantastic, a team of knowledgeable and enthusiastic volunteers who engaged our group and taught me plenty about these beautiful birds of prey. We had a great view, lots of time and all the usual covid-precautions were well adhered to. The guides also suggested a couple of local places where I might (and did!) see some other gorgeous wildlife. Can't thank them enough. 10/10!
A brief visit to Argaty Red Kite Viewings this week.
A Scottish reintroduction project. You'll need to buy tickets in advance (£10) for the summer feeding slot at 1.30pm.
There's a small unmanned visitor centre with a few posters and guidebooks but the highlight is a short walk through the woods to the Hyde.
You can also pay to book the photography Hyde although the Kites are so close to the path and woods you don't have to sit in the wooden box.
Wonderful experience in both the red kite and woodland studio hides. Lynn and ranger Nicky were amazing. Enthusiastic and knowledgable as well as helpful in advice re equipment and approach. Facilities sich as rest-rooms and visitors centre were 1st class and I will definitely return. Thank you Argaty!
